And the explanation of the problems at Farringdon are as follows: What has gone wrong? On Friday, a burst water main near Farringdon flooded the railway tunnels between Farringdon and London St Pancras International. Thames Water have been working to fix the main, but the leak continued to flood the tunnels throughout Saturday and into Sunday. Despite Network Rail’s continued efforts to pump the water, it was still around one metre deep and there is the risk that there has been damage to the safety equipment and infrastructure which needs to be checked. In light of this, Network Rail have closed the line between Farringdon and London St Pancras International until at least the end of service on Monday 26 January. Both Network Rail and Thames Water are currently working hard to fix the problem. This major restriction of access to the network means that Thameslink are only able to run a significantly reduced service on their routes.
