And the fun begins. TransCanada Highway and Highway 1A have been shut down because of the flooding. The town of High River has also declared a state of emergency. Traffic is also being detoured on the TransCanada at Dead Man’s Flats because of a mudslide; drivers are being detoured at Stoney Nakoda. Highway 1A in Exshaw is also closed to traffic because of flooding; Highway 1 at the Norquay overpass is closed, although Mounties think traffic will be moving westbound a little later Thursday morning, and Highway 40 in Kananaskis Country is closed to traffic because of mud and rock slides. The town of Turner Valley has issued a High Water Level Alert, which is impacting residents who live in low lying areas in both Turner Valley and Black Diamond. In Black Diamond, there is a mandatory evacuation for low lying areas, and a voluntary evacuation everywhere else. High Stream Flow Advisories are in effect on all major waterways in southern Alberta, with flood watches in effect on the Highwood and Sheep Rivers.
