And the testimony... So all of you that KNOW me, knows that my lil handsome has Sickle Cell disease. And, if you have followed my FB post for some time now you know that this disease is painful, unpredictable, and has no cure. I have asked for prayers when he is in pain or when he has been hospitalized, but our last journey I kept between family and close friends. Every year Mhakai has to get scans done of his gallbladder, spleen, kidneys, and brain. All ROUTINE for children with sickle cell. Well during his scans this year the numbers for his brain scan came back higher than normal. Brains scan velocity should be under 170 to be considered normal and Mhakai is usually around 118-128 each year for the past 6 years hes been having them done. Mhakais number on the left side went up to 164, still NORMAL but a significant jump. To set this up for you, the higher the number is to 200 the higher the risk of STROKE. His doctor suggested we retest in 6 months and when we did, it jumped again to 188 (remember we dont want it to get to 200). Now the concerns set in and we are sent for an MRI. Those results came back and showed that, GASP, Mhakai had already had 3 YES 3 silent strokes in his brain and now we needed to look at options to get these from continuing. His options were 1 blood transfusion a month, EVERY MONTH, for the next 3 years OR the dreaded thought of taking a medication that I was TOTALLY against because of what I had read about it on the Internet. Well after consulting with his AMAZING doctor (she knows how I roll) and lots of prayers with family and my PERSONAL DOCTOR JESUS, we decided on the medication. I was told that this medicine doesnt always work and NO its not a cure, but when it does work it will feel like a cure. So we started the medicine a little over a month ago and had to go back every 2 weeks for blood tests and then on this past Tuesday.. The re-SCAN.. (Remember under 170 is what we are shooting for).. All of his blood work looked amazing, he was making new fetal hemoglobin (which are the best kind of blood cells) AND lots of them, he has had NO side effects from the medicine AND his scan came back at... DRUM ROLL PLEASE..... 155!!!!! YESSSSSSSSS GOD!!!!!!! It is working!!!! And this suggests that those 3 spots on his brain are healing and repairing themselves!!!! We will know that for sure after a repeat MRI. Ohhhhhh the doctor said THE MEDICINE IS WORKING!! And I said MY GOD WORKED IT OUT IN OUR FAVOR!!!! Hallelujah!!!! So I share because we are all in some sort of situation, mine may not be yours but we do not know what people are going through. I hope by sharing it will help someone else. Keep praying for us yall as he has to take this medicine for the rest of his life. But to GOD BE THE GLORY!!! I will continue to pray for you and your family as well!!! GOD IS GOOD and PRAYERS WORK!!!
