And then, through the doctrine of necessity and some sort of jurisprudential approach, do some kind of transition of two years in which case those present occupiers like the president and state governors who are finishing their tenures, will do another two years that would end in 2017.- Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Thisday December 4, 2013 Retrieved @thisdaylive/articles/ekweremadu-tenure-may-be-extended-for-president-govs/165864/ These guys running this country are either comedians or just good ol ignorant folks! Hear this one talking about the doctrine of necessity that will reward elected officials with two more years in office. Please, if you know Ike tell him that the job of the legislature is not to seek for easy answers in the midst of a problem. A do something legislature rather than a do nothing one that presently runs this country would be hard at work finding solutions to our myriad of problems among which is electoral violence; such a legislature wouldnt dare tinker with the constitution to grant themselves two more years in office. Their job in case they have forgotten in the first place is to prevent such kinds of violence not to subvert the constitution and perpetuate illegality. One of the ways by which they can prevent this looming violence is to commence hearings on INECs failed election in Anambra, appraise Nigerias security readiness (The Borno attacks is fresh in our memory) and institute a Government Overisght Committe that will be saddled with the task of making sure that all levels of government are held accountable in a timely manner. I would suggest that they find in both Houses - ranking members with very high integrity - that can hold their own against anyone in this country. I do not know if such persons exist in the present legislature but I wish the National Assembly luck in finding them amongst their midst. Extending executive tenure by two years is definitely a non starter.
