And this is how I spent my weekend--Refinishing these two antique shotguns. They are both 12 gauge singleshots. The top one is a Stevens (Savage), that was made somewhere between 1960/1968, so it is at least 46 years old. The bottom one is an EXCEL which was made by Iver-Johnson, for Montgomery Ward, somewhere between 1900 and 1950, so it has to be at least 64 years old. Both were fired 8 days ago, and they both kick like an Army Mule. They probably have not looked this good in many a year. I cleaned and re-blued the metal. Sanded the wood parts down to bare wood, stained them, and then put three coats of urethane on them. What the heck--a 74 year old has to do something to occupy his time.
