And this is the condemnation , that light is come into the world , and men loved darkness rather than light , because their deeds were evil . (John 3:19) It usually is easier to do things in the light, than in the dark. We can repair an engine, in a well lighted garage is much preferable to a dark one. Putting up drywall in a sufficiently illuminated work area is preferred over a dark one. Also, cutting grass in the day is much better than at night. Sadly, man has become used to the dark. Dark, spiritually speaking of course, is the condition of our hearts. Evil, and all its manifestations, exists in a darkened mind, soul and heart. Light, as used in the Bible, is almost always referring to proper knowledge, that is to say, properly illuminated. Darkness, conversely, is lack of true, good, saving knowledge. Why do we prefer dark? Jesus, in our text said its our deeds, evil they were (are). Our condemnation actually comes less from our deeds (though evil they are) but our love of darkness over our love of light. Jesus previously had said (John 3:17), For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world ; but that the world through him might be saved . So, it is our own condemnation, not Gods desire to condemn us, that has us in our darkened state. Turn to the light, like a moth searching in the darkened night, that light so shines that it is impossible to overlook it! GOD BLESS
