And this marks the beginning of the Border Collie breeding - TopicsExpress

And this marks the beginning of the Border Collie breeding program. Wayne had been at a trial up in Platte, SD with Tank and watched the open dogs run. Saw Pete Carmichael Carmichael Border Collies run Olie, he called home and said that if he ever was to own a border collie he wanted one like Olie. Told him to just talk to Pete and buy a pup. Well he didnt, came home and kept talking. Finally I talked him into calling after seeing that Pete had pups available on his website. Ends up he had one left, Jake. Not a son of Olie, but grandson. That night that Wayne called was the day that Olie was killed out on the highway. These photos were taken in January when we went up to Timber Lake, SD to pick up Jake. Pete showed us many dogs, showed us finished dogs, ones in training and pups. He also let us work a couple of our crossbreds. I remember him asking me when after Clyde had sliced in and crashed the sheep, why didnt you stop him? I said that I tried, he said yeah, way over there, he was wrong way back here! Eyes wide open from that day forward, or at least tried to have them open. Pete sent Jake home with us saying that he felt that he would improve the genetics in this area and that so long as we kept him out of tire tracks he would be a good one for us. There were some days while training Jake that I really wondered if I should thank Pete or swear at him...
