And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such thing. Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things? Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? Romans 2:2-4 (NLT) Just because you do not believe in God’s judgment or have not experienced it should not think that God’s mercy will last for even another minute. Judgment by God is withheld only to give people time to repent and turn to Him. Yes, it is in God’s kindness that He holds back judgment giving people time to repent. Many people often mistake God’s patience for approval of the wrong way they are living. It is difficult for us to do a self-evaluation and even more difficult to expose our conduct to God and let Him tell us where we need to change. However, as Christians we are to constantly pray that God will point out our sins so that He can heal them. Unfortunately, we are more likely to be amazed at God’s patience with others than humble by His patience with us. David prayed to be cleansed. Psalm 51:7: “Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” David knew he had done wrong and was truly sorry as his actions had hurt many people. God forgave David as he had repented receiving God’s mercy. There are times in our lives we need to repent so that we came feel His mercy in our lives. Yes, God has already forgiven us, but there is something about repentance that brings us into a closer relationship with God. Sin puts a wall between us and God and disappears as we come humbly to Him in prayer. He will freely restore our relationship with Him. One thing we need to remember is that just because we repent and confess our sins it does not take away the consequences of what the sin has caused. You are forgiven, but you still have to live with the results created. David lost his son with Bathsheba, but he was able to move on in his life. Repentance enables you to move on in your life and in your fellowship with the Lord.
