And what can be said of love? Perhaps that to ever term it - TopicsExpress

And what can be said of love? Perhaps that to ever term it *unconditional* is a misnomer. Does love exist in a void of conditions? I would think not. It is perhaps more useful, more honest, to speak of love as always conditional, and, at its most potent, operating under all conditions. I do not seek to love *unconditionally*, but under all conditions. I seek to comprehend what it might mean to embody an ethic, a disposition towards myself and others, that demands and INSISTS upon love as a way of life, as a fundamental necessity of my being as something we could call *human*. I believe in love as a rigorous discipline, a continual breaking up and overturning of the obdurate soil of oneself, a radical openness to others that does not dismantle my sense of self or boundary, but multiplies the possibility of togetherness and community. I believe in love as a form of knowledge, self-giving and openly receiving, such that to know and be known is to love. Today, I aim to practice love, albeit imperfectly and haltingly, with everything I have.
