And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. ~ Colossians 3:17 This is one of those verses that is really really important in your walk with God, so I truly hope that whoever reads this doesnt take it lightly. As believers and followers of Jesus, it doesnt mean were perfect citizens who keep every law, turn in guilty wrongdoers and condemn the practices of sinners. God doesnt expect any of us to be perfect. He doesnt ask that we punish ourselves with guilt and shame every time we mess up. But you know what God does want? He wants our passion. How can we say we live FOR our God when we only give Him 5 minutes of our day? When we spend more time giving our life to our own pleasures than Him, thats not living for Him. Thats making Him a part of your schedule. God should BE our lives not a part of our lives. If we surrendered our lives to Him, theyre no longer our lives. We made a decision to be dedicated to Him. This passage says Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, because whatever we do, were essentially representing the Kingdom we belong to, but more importantly, were representing Jesus. When people know youre a Christian, and they see you being foul, gossiping, and downright mean, what kind of picture does that paint of God? The way you act as a Christian around nonbelievers is going to affect the way the think about God, and how they feel about Him. This is exactly why were called to do all in the name of Jesus, because if we do, then well speak in love, and our actions will be driven by love. So whether youre a stay at home mom, a student, or a member of the military, everything you do gives praise and points back to the One you live for. All of these things we do are intended to reflect the character of our Creator, so that people will see He only ever desires for us to love Him back as intensely as He loves us. This whole thing, everything we do, should be centered around love. I strongly encourage you guys to take your prayer lives seriously because time spent with Him is so so so important.
