And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea. (Acts 27: 38) The meal gave them strength and encouraged them. Knowing Paul had told them the ship would be lost, they threw overboard even the food they had reserved to sustain their lives. The hope was the lighter ship would float higher in the water and get them closer to the shore. The promises of God are sure and with His help we can never be defeated.
