And where I go you know, and the way you know. Thomas said to Him, - TopicsExpress

And where I go you know, and the way you know. Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where you are going and how can we know the way? John 14:4-5 (NKJV) The question posed in our devotional text today is one of extreme eternal consequences. It is one of inquiry, searching, and even perhaps uncertainty. Jesus has just declared to the disciples that there was no need for their hearts to be troubled. (v.1) The word troubled in the original text means to be stirred or agitated.” Jesus declaration came in the wake of the disciples receiving 3 items of very troubling news. First of all Jesus informs them that one of the twelve that He had chosen would betray Him. (13:21) Secondly, He announces that He would be leaving them and for now they would not be able to follow Him. (13:33) Lastly He predicts that Peter would deny Him three times before the rooster would crow. Their consolation and deliverance from their hearts being troubled was that Jesus declares that He has prepared another place for the disciples and for all believers; namely the Fathers House. It is a prepared place for a prepared people. The manner by which we become prepared for the place is by participating in the plan. The way that we participate in the plan is by confessing with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, and then and only then can we enter into the Fathers House. It is a place where there wont be anymore sadness, sickness, or suffering; God will wipe every tear from our eyes and there will be death no more. Thomas, who would become known as the doubting disciple; asks what could possibly be lifes greatest question, How can we know the way? Puzzling as it must have seemed, Jesus had just told the disciples that they knew where He was going and they also knew the way to get there. Surely it would have been down right unfair for Jesus to prepare a place for the disciples and all believers and then not tell us how to get there. Isnt it interesting that so many individuals throughout the world are perhaps asking the same question? On the other hand there are those who are inquiring about the way to get any and everything other then getting to the Fathers House. People want to know the way to get rich, the way to invest their money, the way to get a better education, the way to prosperity and the like. Jesus shares with us the only way to get to the Fathers House. Jesus is not only the way to the Fathers House but He is the only way that has eternal ramifications when we accept the path to get to the place that He has promised. If you dont know or have never been given the opportunity to receive the eternal promise of heaven, you must be willing to make the same inquiry that Thomas made. It is indeed lifes greatest question and Jesus is indeed lifes greatest answer. Jesus is the answer for the world today, above Him theres no other, Jesus is the way.
