And yes certain foods like “(dark) chocolate” can affect the “feel-good” neurotransmitters in the brain. But don’t get carried away with that fact, the way marketers of chocolate want you to do. While chocolate can alter a bad mood to a slightly better mood – that can become a dangerous slippery slope. Moreover, chocolate is not going to make a good mood, any better. Remember research shows people who suffer from depression eat twice as much chocolate than people who don’t have depression. Let’s not assume for a minute anything more than the obvious: The mood-lifting effects of dark chocolate even though documented – they are still merely instantaneous, transitory, and fleeting at best. Therefore, it doesn’t ever “solve” anything – except become for you a rationalization that “dark chocolate” is ok and it’s “good for me.” And all things considered this just stretches credulity beyond the pale. So if you want to eat chocolate, eat it. But don’t pretend it’s doing anything wonderful or healthy for you. And I warn you to be real careful about the reality of where it takes you when you reward negative feelings with tasty treats!
