And yes, the Christmas spirit is alive and well at the VA in Spokane. Kent Williamson (US Army 1967-69) a Vietnam War combat Veteran shared his familys compassion, respect and pride for fellow Veterans by bringing the entire clan, including 20+ Grandchildren to the medical center! They purchased, wrapped, and hand-delivered the gifts to every Veteran they could find, whether in a clinic waiting room, the hallway, the dining room, at the Veteran patients bedside and in the Community Living Center. And it was fantastic. The Veterans were surprised. They were gracious in accepting the kids thanks for their service to a grateful nation. As Veteran Don Kauffman (US Navy) said as the kids met him for the first time as he lay in his hospital bed, you all have earned your special place in heaven someday by coming here today. The photos do depict their loving spirit and joy in their kind and generous offerings on Christmas Eve. And after singing We wish you a Merry Christmas in the medical center lobby, they departed and shared some tears and warm hugs... knowing that their mission was successful today (and for creating memories for years to come by all those they met at the VA). Merry Christmas!
