Andi Chrisman would like to know: Im curious about others - TopicsExpress

Andi Chrisman would like to know: Im curious about others experiences with other diagnoses relating to pain reception. When I was 19, I was diagnosed with a condition called vulvar vestibulitis. Basically, I felt immense pain any time I was touched intimately or tried to use to a tampon. My doctor at the time told me that women with this disorder feel pain stronger than others do. I actually participated in a research study at Duke University, where they shocked my arm until I couldnt take it any more (I couldnt take much). I had a partial vulvectomy in 2008 to correct this, so it doesnt cause issues anymore (though I imagine the pain thing still applies). When I was 24, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. You all may be familiar with this beast, so I wont explain it *wink*. My doctor told me that they believe people with fibromyalgia feel pain stronger than other people without it do. When I was 26, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), after years of struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. One of the foremost experts in BPD, Marsha Linehan, says that People with BPD are like people with third degree burns over 90% of their bodies. Lacking emotional skin, they feel agony at the slightest touch or movement. Basically, BPDs feel emotional pain stronger than others. I dont find all of these to be a coincidence! I am just curious if others have had similar experiences, having other diagnoses that are related to feeling pain more intensely than the average person.
