Andies street dog Blue when he was still homeless. Some things may be getting lost in translation on posts from my Chilean friends so heres the scoop as told to me by Chilean Rescuer Steffanka Reitter. She says that the problem with all the street dogs does not come from lack of money. Chile has mines and plenty of money. The problem is in that culture most people dont care about animals. They are disposable. They dont bother to spay or neuter even though there are places where it can be done free and crates given out. Instead, they dump their dogs and their offspring into the streets. There are no laws against this. Also, government doesnt fund for shelters. There are caring people who do Rescue, but all money comes out of their own pockets. Rescuers there are very excited about Andies story because they hope that they can bring awareness to Chileans that pets should be deserved and cherished. If a 16 year old girl from the US is willing to move mountains to get a dirty street dog 1/2 around the world, then they should learn a lesson from that and give a home to the dogs that they step over everyday in their own towns.
