Andre Villas-Boas is on the verge of getting the sack as #Tottenham manager, according to a report in The Guardian. The paper claims that #Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and owner Joe Lewis have serious doubts about whether he remains the manager to establish them in the #PremierLeagues top four. The report adds that there is a perception inside the club that he has sought to blame everybody bar himself for the recent difficulties, from the #WhiteHartLane crowd and the Tottenham medics to members of the first-team squad. Sundays 6-0 thrashing at the hands of #ManchesterCity has apparently increased Villas-Boass jeopardy, with players reportedly angry at their manager after he said the club should be ashamed of their performance at the #EtihadStadium. The Tottenham board backed Villas-Boass plans in unprecedented fashion over the summer, allowing him to spend over £110 million on seven new stars - though three-quarters of that sum was recovered through the sale of Gareth Bale. Such spending is often thought to confer an aura of unsackability to a manager, at least until much later in the season - but the defeat at City, the home defeat by West Ham a few weeks ago, the managers criticism of his own clubs fans following the narrow win over Hull and the controversy about Hugo Lloris being allowed to play on despite being knocked unconscious during a match have seriously undermined the Portuguese managers position. In addition, most of the clubs new signings have struggled since moving to White Hart Lane, with £26m striker Roberto Soldado having scored just once in open play and £30m midfielder Erik Lamelas full league debut against City suggesting that he has a long way to go to justify his price tag. Spurs fans were chanting for the return of Harry Redknapp during the 6-0 loss on Sunday, while bookies have slashed Villas-Boas to around even money in the betting on who will be the next Premier League manager to get fired.
