Andrew Jacksons campaign to dissolve the tribes, through both the forced removal of entire tribes and the land allotment program, was an attempt to make the Indians Citizens and to coerce them to get rid of their lands. Under the land allotment program, Indians, as a condition of remaining on the land, were required to accept individual land grants that later were seized by land speculators through fraud or by creditors for debts.
