Andrew Luck Hoping to Become Fastest No. 1 Pick to Reach Super Bowl With a win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck would become the first No. 1 overall draft pick at his position to reach the Super Bowl within the first three seasons of his career, per ESPN Stats & Info. Of course, while a number of the NFLs most successful signal-callers went first overall in the draft, most of these players were joining teams with rather barren rosters. Nine quarterbacks drafted first overall have reached a Super Bowl, and eight of those captured at least one championship, with current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith being the lone exception. The group is otherwise comprised of Terry Bradshaw, Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Drew Bledsoe, Peyton Manning, David Carr and Eli Manning, with the eight players accounting for 16 rings. Bledsoe and Carr only earned rings as backups, though Bledsoe notably opened the 2001 season as the starting quarterback for the eventual champion New England Patriots, before an injury opened the door for Tom Brady to begin his own legacy. As for Luck, the Colts 25-year-old quarterback is off to a remarkably fast start in his career, with three playoff appearances and three playoff victories already to his name. Tasked with carrying a team that has often struggled to run the ball and play defense, Luck owns the NFL record for passing yards (1,703) through a players first five career playoff games, per ESPN Stats & Info. from Bleacher Report - Front Page ift.tt/1wi8Tlh ift.tt/eA8V8J
