Andrew Simon Murder Investigation The leading officer in charge of a Hartlepool murder investigation is calling on help from members of the public to identify the person responsible for the murder of town man Andrew Simon. Andrew died following a fire at his home, 21 Dent Street at around 12:50am in the early hours of Tuesday June 11th. ... A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday in connection with the death has been released this morning with no further action. Detective Superintendent Peter McPhillips, head of the Cleveland Police Murder Investigation Team believes the key to solving Andrew’s murder lies in the heart of the local Hartlepool community. A team of detectives based from a Major Incident Room in Hartlepool are working to establish his whereabouts on the days leading up to his death and crucially in the hours leading up to the fire. Trained officers are speaking to relatives, neighbours and those who knew him in order to paint a picture of his life and any possible motives for the murder. It has now been confirmed that Andrew died as a result of smoke inhalation and that the fire started in the downstairs of the property. Superintendent Peter McPhillips said: “Andrew Simon was a father of three children, he was a son and a brother and we are determined to bring the person responsible for his murder to justice. Family liaison officers are supporting relatives and my thoughts are with Andrew’s family.
