Andy Harlows Latin Fever Vaya Records (VS-59) One afternoon as I was coming out of High School I decided to stop by La Tierra Sounds Studios @ 1440 Broadway, my cousin Frankie Rosario was at this recording session with Andy Harlow & a bunch of other cats. To my surprise, I was excited to be present this classic recording session. I also met for the first time the late great Markolino Dimond, who was their with his arrangement of the classic Las Mujeres, in which he also is featured on the piano & takes a mean solo. I only got to see them record three numbers, but it was an awesome experience. When I first entered the studios they were recording ShangriLa, Larry Harlow was on Fender Rhodes, & the voices of Nancy O Neil, Gretchen Studier & Jane Blackwell blew me away!...but the last number for that day was the closer, Los Cueros, a sizzling guaguanco arranged by Paquito Pastor, who is also featured on piano & takes a soaring solo, but the best was yet to come, the rhythm section!!!..consisting of Frankie Rosario on bongo, Frankie Rodriguez on conga, & Tony Jimenez on timbales. Each with his own solo on their drums, but when Tony Jimenez broke out with his massive timbal solo I though that the roof was gonna cave in, thats how explosive this session was.
