Andy Smith – life long Hornets supporter – has been cycling for over 1,000 miles in Brazil for a great cause. It was Friday 17th January when Andy left England and flew to Brazil, landing in Porto Alegre, South of Brazil. The day after he started his unique journey from the city where Ronaldinho, former Barcelona FC and AC Milan player and 2002 World Cup winner, was born; after over a month of cycling and more than 1,000 miles, he reached Rio de Janeiro. A few days ago he visited the Maracana’ stadium, one of the world’s most famous stadiums and where 2014 World Cup final will take place on Sunday 13th July. Andy has nicknamed this unique South American adventure as ‘Smudgers Samba Soccer Stadium Cycle Safari’. He set off on the epic 5,500-mile bike ride which will see the lifelong Watford fan visit all 12 World Cup cities and every stadium. His journey will end in Manaus, just in time to watch England playing Italy for the first World Cup group stage match. In Brazil, he’s becoming a minor celebrity, being also busy with interviews, photos and events and having met local personalities. Local Brazilians people have really taken his trip into their hearts, giving him a lot of help along the way.
