Andy White who played drums on The Beatles track Love Me Do would - TopicsExpress

Andy White who played drums on The Beatles track Love Me Do would not earn enough from it to buy his own copy. White would get no more than his original session fee of £7. In September 1962, White received a call asking him to attend a Beatles recording session at Abbey Road. EMI record producer George Martin disapproved of Pete Bests drumming who had recorded the song earlier and was now also unhappy with second record of newcomer Starrs drumming. Beatles played Love Me Do a third time, this time with White replacing Starr on drums and Starr relegated to playing tambourine. The story is, when you are asked to play on a session, you are (or you were in the 60s) given the option of being paid a fee for the days work or taking a small percentage of future sales. Now, when you’re a struggling musician a bit of cash on the day would be very tempting. And have a drink, so of course you would take the cash. The song will never be a hit anyway?
