Angel Rain 13 tim · Im not a bum; Im a human being. – Ronald Davis The one and only time I begged for money was when I had nothing and I was trying to get to school from the homeless shelter. Never in my life have I ever felt so disrespected and so objectified in my life. I began to cry, and people thought it was some attempt to gain pity, but in reality, I pitied them for losing their humanity in those moments. Since those 30 minutes of begging for $1.75, I swore to myself that I would never allow myself to be treated like that nor will I ever allow anyone else to treat anyone like that. Im fortunate enough to be young and I have my youth that allows people to open up opportunities for me, but we treat those on the street that are older as lost causes even though some of them were veterans, business men and women, and intelligent people who have had terrible misfortunes fall on their shoulders. Never forget that the people out on the streets this winter are literally begging for their lives. Never forget that people out there deserve as much of an opportunity to succeed as you do. Never forget that they are as human as you.
