Angela wrote--I weaned myself off pain medication two and a half months after having my hand amputation, last two meds (out of 13 after surgery) being lyrica and methadone. I wanted to return to work and not be foggy minded. I returned to work at three months. Im at five months out now. Two weeks ago, my arm got stuck in a model prosthesis (mold too small) for 45 minutes and was bruised and damaged when we finally got it out. Since then my phantom limb pain has gotten worse and Im getting debilitating cramps in that arm in addition to the post surgery tendonitis I had. It literally feels like I dipped my arm in hydrochloric acid and it wont stop burning, topped off with a Charlie horse every five minutes that lasts a minute or two. Im having heart palpitations from being in this much pain for such an extended period. My pain doc offered topomax, takes three weeks to build up to therapeutic level..really? Thanks.. worthless.. I am not supposed to sleep then? Oh, I have an infant at home and a three year old. Cancer returned when my baby was six weeks old. I cant/wont take off of work again but need sleep. Help!! Suggestions appreciated!
