Angels for Alicia Hruby 12 minutes ago. I mentioned the other day that the transplant surgeon blew our minds with information that they discovered on the MRCP and other tests. Well your minds will be blown as well I am sure! First of all, she said she has the capability to take a much larger liver and cut it down to size to fit Alicias body. We were under the impression that a liver would have to be a comparable size to hers. She drew a diagram to show us how it is done. This excited us! BUT THIS IS THE MIND BLOWER! She said that Alicias spleen is 26.1 cm long very wide and tall. and that the walls are THICK and we do not have to be as careful as we thought because her disease made it rubbery tough. She also said they may remove her spleen when they do the transplant. Tim and I looked at each other in shock because we were told by both Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Minnesota Mayo Clinic that that was not an option and that she needed her spleen because of her compromised immune system. WELL! As it turns out, Alicia has an ACCESSORY SPLEEN!!!!!!! It is 2cm in size and can have the capacity to perform as a fully functioning spleen! God moment? As our friend Larry Fagan would say Can I get an AMEN?
