Anger, resentment, bitterness. Those are not pleasant words, and the effect those negative emotions have on the body is not pleasant either. Anger can lead to resentment, which can lead to bitterness. If we hold that negative emotion long enough, it can affect not only our mind and relationships, it can damage our physical body, too. Like worry and fear, these negative emotions are poison to the body. They make us sick. How do you feel after experiencing these emotions? Do you feel wrung out, tense, have a headache, stomach ache, trouble falling asleep and regaining your equilibrium? If we hold onto them long enough, these emotions can result in ulcers, high blood pressure, heart problems, and other illness. Not only can these types of emotions affect the ones they’re aimed at, but when we cling to them, we rob ourselves of peace and joy and happiness. When something makes you angry, acknowledge it, deal with it, forgive…and then let it go. I mean it, really let it go and move on. Otherwise, it will be a festering toxicity in your body. After you’ve done that, replace those negative emotions with something positive. Find something to be joyful and grateful about and see how much better you will soon feel.
