Angola, Malaysia, New Zealand and Venezuela elected to serve on UN Security Council. ****** United Nations, 16th of October (Agência Lusa) – Angola, Venezuela, Malaysia and New Zealand were elected to serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, during a vote in the General Assembly of the United Nations. A second ballot will decide the fifth place left to fill in Council which is being disputed between Spain and Turkey. ****** Here in Beijing…Woke up at 4 am. It was the best news I read upon waking - The election of New Zealand for the Security Council at the first ballot. My maths served me well. In more than 10 years since our independence, I never stayed more than 5 days in New York. To give my support to the New Zealand contest for a seat, I stayed in New York from the 29th of September till the 14th of October, dedicating myself to the campaign to elect the little New Zealand for the UN Security Council. Congratulations New Zealand, Congratulations UN! The election of Angola for the Security Council was guaranteed. More over, I said to the Permanent Representative of Angola to the UN, Amb. Ismael Martins, super active and respected man, that Angola would gather 190 votes. Now, I go back to sleep for a few more hours. Sleep of the just. ☺
