Angola: TAAG Angola Airline, Emirates Sign Deal Luanda — A strategic partnership cooperation accord was signed Tuesday last week in Dubai between the Angolan Ministry of Transport and the Emirates Airline, for the development of the Angolan Airline (TAAG). The information is contained in a press release that reached Angop. According to the source, the deal makes provisions for a TAAG management contract, under which an Emirates executive team takes up the running of the Angolan airline. The deal provides for a new TAAG governing model with a nine-member management board. Of the management boards nine members, five will be appointed by the Angolan Government as deputy CEO and non-executive directors. Emirates will provide the CEO and four executive directors. TAAG will thus be run by an executive board comprising the Emirates-appointed executive directors, namely the chairman and the directors for the commercial, operation, finance and administrative departments. The above team will be joined by the deputy chairman appointed by the Angola Airline. According to the source, the purpose of the deal is to provide TAAG with an international professional management standard, ridding the company of efficacy and efficiency hurdles facing the airline for years, and thus improve the quality of its services and operational security. In order to sign the deal, a high level Angolan delegation headed by the minister of Transport, Augusto da Silva Tomás, travelled on Sunday to Dubai. Under the accord, Emirates Airline will help build a new a strong TAAG with high quality services locally and abroad. The Ministry of Transport explains that TAAG will remain an Angolan airline run by Angolans.
