Anguilla isn’t where it ought to be but day by day we will get there. Our economy is based on Tourism and this is the eight consecutive month of increase arrivals to the island. Only two months had a culumutive single digit increase. Those months being January and April with a 7.3% and a 9.5% increase respectively. February saw a 10.1% increase with March being one of the highest at 24.5%, May 13.5%, June 20.2%, July 19.6% with August at a 21% increase totaling 14,974 visitors. These increases are over the same period for 2012. August’s tourists or stay over visitor arrivals to Anguilla was up 14.5% from the same period 2012 This increase was due to the increase in tourist arrivals by 14.5% and excursionist arrivals by 25.4% when compared with August 2012. 92.4% of arrivals came in at the seaports of which, 90.5% passengers entered at the Blowing Point terminal and 9.5% arrived at the Sandy Ground port. 1,801 7.6% passengers came into Anguilla via the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport. This is important when one considers the fact Government spent in excess of $80 million to expand the former Wallblake Airport and we recently spent just short of $1 million to develop our sea route via the Sxm/Anguilla dock. We will continue to work to increase these numbers. Together with the private sector and the hard work of the AHTA and the ATB we will get there.
