Animals are property. That is, they have no intrinsic or inherent - TopicsExpress

Animals are property. That is, they have no intrinsic or inherent value. They have only extrinsic or external value. We use nonhumans in ways in which we use *no* humans. Because animals are property, it is absurd to talk about balancing human and nonhuman interests. Animals always lose. They have to lose if we are to maintain their status as property. To be property means that if your interests conflict with those of your owner, your owner wins. If we recognize that animals have one moral right--the right not to be treated as property--then we can no longer justify treating animals as human resources. We can no longer justify our institutionalized use of animals. If you accept that it is wrong to treat animals as property, and you refuse to participate in this most unjust institution, you go vegan. Its really that simple.
