Anime recommendation Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica AKA: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Written by: Gen Urobuchi Episodes: 12 Genre: Dark Fantasy, Horror Music: Yuki Kajiura Original run: 2011 Personal rating: 8.91/10 This animé is mainly about how Magical Girls protect humanity from witches using their powers. Powers they got in exchange for granting any 1 of their wish, and their physical body and soul. This series has a solid plot, brilliant story, creative artwork, excellent character design and of course, Yuki Kajiura was in charge of the music. Therefore, youll hear some of the most badass soundtracks made in the history of Japanese cartoons. The thing with this cartoon is, you wont know jack about how the series is gonna turn out in the end in the first few episodes. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica aint your typical magical girl crap, which I too, thought at first and constantly felt sorry for the high as hell idiots in various forums who said its so good. Its only after finishing the series I realized that I was the idiot for judging a book by its cover. For the 1st 3 episodes, the animé isnt unlike your typical magical girl shit, though. Foreboding dream sequences, comedy antics with family and friends. Pretty typical, right? The starting theme too, will make you feel this way, so dont pay attention to it. The ending song, Magia, is awesome as hell and will give you a better image of the series. All of that being said, youll find vague hints of the dark tone of this series here and there in the first few episodes. And a very clear image of that from the ending song which will make you go Kaboom! The fights in this series, well... Unique would be the best word for them. And very creative and exciting. None of the characters attack with rods, typical staffs or wands or other elements of Nature and flashy stuff. The main enemies in this series, witches, come in various shapes and sizes. Each designed with imaginative, highly stylized art which bears the essence of the authors creativity. Although, the artwork of tgis series is either a hit or miss for people. For me, damn right it was a hit. At the end of episode 3, a certain someone dies and thats where the series truly began for most people. From there on in, the series gets a lot darker and colder. Awesome twists here and there that kept me on the edge of my seat for the entirety of the show and constantly shout Ermahgawd!! . And of course, the badass soundtracks. Also, gradually it becomes clear a certain Gen Urobuchi is the author of this series. And after all that mind screwing stuff, the series leaves us with a bang. An instant recommendation for any animé fan.
