Animosity between grunge bands is nothing new and neither is reconciliation. During early 1990s , Nirvana and Pearl Jam were constantly competing for the same grunge listening audience base and this later on culminated as a bitter feud between Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain. But still when Kurt died , Pearl Jam did play Nirvanas Smells like teen spirit as a tribute in a live concert. It is interesting to note in 2002 , when Chris Cornell (Former Soundgarden vocalist) and Rage Against the Machine band came together to form Audioslave, they released their first single Cochise [named after heroic red indian chief]. The lyrics go something like this Go and save yourself! ...and take it out on me A year later to this , Pearl Jam came back on the grunge scene and released their single Save you...the lyrics were Gonna save you F****r , Help me help yourself! Eddie Vedder on Save you : One thing Ive learned about addiction in the last few years is that having seen other folk go through it, and really not having done that, with heroin which can grip you that intensely. I didnt have a complete understanding and a lot of times it was easy to come to the conclusion that you place blame on the person or accuse them of weakness or ask, Why couldnt Kurt [Cobain] keep it together? There was always that in the back of your mind. So with all the sympathy and empathy you could muster you still felt like, Wow, there was so much to live for. What Ive learned is there really isnt any blame.
