Anna Lee Garrison, 91-year-old former Checotah resident, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 in Oklahoma City. She was born on Sunday, August 27, 1922 in Morris, Oklahoma to Ushery and Frankie Gibson Bailey. At the age of two she moved with her family to Holdenville, Oklahoma where she received her education, graduating from Holdenville High School in 1940. On Saturday, July 5, 1941 she married Chester Caldwell in Holdenville. He was in the army at the time of their marriage, so she traveled with him wherever he was stationed. When he served overseas, she returned to Holdenville and began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator. When he returned and had completed his service, they settled in Holdenville. Anna served alongside her husband as pastors of Pentecostal Holiness churches in Cromwell, Bethel, Holdenville, Checotah and Stilwell. God called Chester home on Friday, June 26, 1981. With the strength of her Lord and Savior she continued to serve as an evangelist, marrying Melvin Garrison in 1984. Throughout her years of ministry she was able to tour the Holy Land twice. Her greatest accomplishments in her life were serving her Lord and being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester, in 1981; husband, Melvin, in 1987; two brothers, Eugene and Neal Bailey; son-in-laws, Doug Johnson and Michael Butler; stepson Melvin Louis Bucky Garrison. Anna is lovingly survived by her daughters: Linda Johnson of Checotah, Martha Taylor and husband Jerry of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren who affectionately call her “Nanny”: Laura Rogers and husband Darin, Jarrett Johnson, Jennifer Elkins and husband Michael, James Butler, Julie Butler; seven great-grandchildren: Elisha Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Charlotte Johnson, Robert Johnson, Zachary Elkins, Taylor Elkins and Owen Butler; one great-great-grandchild, Kayden Rogers; stepdaughter, Pearl Ford and husband Richard; two step-grandchildren: Cindy Drake and husband David, Pam Altaffer and husband Philip; other extended family and a lifetime of friends. Viewing for Anna will be held from 9AM-7PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 with her family greeting friends from 5PM-7PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating the life of Anna will be 10:30 AM Thursday, March 29, 2014 at Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church with Reverend Jim Eby, Mr. Jarrett Johnson and Reverend Tim Whisenhunt ministering. Graveside services will be conducted by Reverend Matt Von Wald in Greenlawn Cemetery. Burial will follow under the personal direction of John Garrett. Darin Rogers, Mike Elkins, Jarrett Johnson, James Butler, Owen Butler and Jonathan Rogers will serve as Casket Bearers. Charlotte Johnson, Robert Johnson, Zachary Elkins, Taylor Elkins and Kayden Rogers will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
