Anna writes: The church of Panagia Kera (Holy Mary the Lady) is one of the oldest churches in Crete. It dates back to the 14th century and contains many beautiful Byzantine frescoes from the 14th and 15th century. The oldest part of the church is the central isle dedicated to The Dormition of the Virgin Mary. Two isles were added at a later date. The North (left) isle is dedicated to Saint Anthony and the South (right) isle is dedicated to Saint Anna. The church is only used for worship once a year on the 15th August—it is open all year round to visitors.
