Annabel Nicholas, manager of the birth suite at the Princess Anne Maternity Unit, said: “We have had family friends and similar taking this role with Asian families during births here. We are always very happy to work with doulas. They can complement the work of midwives. We have a very open policy and try to make the birth as positive and happy as possible with plenty of help for mums. Doulas who have experience of other births can, among other things, offer calmness and reassurance which all helps.”
