Annalise Suthers was born with a rare disease called biliary atresia, a liver disorder that occurs before or shortly after birth when a babys bile ducts (the tubes that carry bile from the liver) become blocked. When she was only 3 months old, her liver failed, and when corrective surgery did not help, it was clear that she needed a new liver. Annalise, who weighed only 6 pounds, became one of the smallest babies to receive a liver transplant at CHOP.
