Anndrea Starzak (former Vestal Supervisor, who is running against State Senator Tom Libous (very pro fracking) says this about the issue: QUOTE: Thank you so much for your help in this race. I am very concerned about fracking and believe we must have a comprehensive health study done to look at possible health effects. I am also very concerned about the environment as well as the issues with infrastructure which will affect local municipalities and taxpayers. The economics of fracking have to be studied to see the true costs for roads, bridges, land use, and taxes for municipalities so that the burden of up keep and repair does not fall back on local taxpayers. As Vestal Supervisor I attended meetings concerning fracking and always brought up these issues. While we are blessed with an adequate water supply now, we must not take it for granted, nor pollute it because we cannot safely process effluent. Tough safegards and appropriate regulations would also be necessary before any fracking should take place. We do not have them in place now.
