Annie Lurie Woodard Funeral services will be held at Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home, 1641 E. Main Street, Humboldt, Tennessee on Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00 PM with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt to follow. Annie Laurie (Peek) Woodard passed away peacefully on April 18th in the Madison Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama, with her immediate family present. She was 90 years old. Ann was born in Humboldt, Tennessee, December 20, 1923, to Herbert Edward Peek, Sr. and Ruby Mai Graves. She attended Humboldt High School and during the war years, worked at the Milan Arsenal, in Milan, Tennessee, supporting the war effort assembling artillery shells. She was later introduced by her cousin to her future husband, Gene Louis Woodard (Jan. 14, 1926 – Aug. 31, 1994) of Jackson, Tennessee, while she attended secretarial school in Jackson. They were married on July 6, 1946 in Humboldt, Tennessee and soon after moved to Memphis, where Gene began work for the City of Memphis as an accountant. During the mid-60’s and beyond, Ann worked initially at the Rexall Drug Store on Poplar Avenue and later the White Station Pharmacy on Park Avenue in Memphis, both owned by her brother, Herb Peek, where she was remembered for her pleasant smile and gentle disposition. After retiring, she relocated to Huntsville, Alabama in 1995 to be closer to family. Ann and Gene had two sons, Carlton Andrew (Andy) currently of Reno, Nevada and Russell Edward (Rusty) currently of Huntsville, Alabama. Andrew is a Claims Manager with State Farm Insurance and Russ is a Senior Structural Engineer with the Boeing Company. Ann loved her two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Christine, and two grandsons, Patrick and Timothy, and it was her grandchildren of which she was most proud. Ann was preceded in death by her siblings: Mildred (Peek) Bledsoe, Peggy Peek, Opal (Polly Peek) Smith, and Herbert Edward Peek, Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Andrew Woodard, his wife Kathleen (Mullee) Woodard, Russ Woodard, and his wife Sherry (Sechrest) Woodard; two grandsons, Patrick (30) and Timothy (25) and two grand-daughters, Elizabeth (22) and Christine(21).
