Annika was supposed to be helping Philomena wash her hands, and - TopicsExpress

Annika was supposed to be helping Philomena wash her hands, and somehow she managed to allow Philomena to throw one of my absolute, hands down favorite books EVER, called The Shaping of a Christian Family, by Elisabeth Elliot, into the toilet during a moment of inattention. This is the first time ANY of my kids has dropped/ thrown anything into the toilet besides too much toilet paper, so it feels like a huge parental failure to me on my part. Whats worse is that I trusted her to help Philomena learn to wash her hands, and she clearly wasnt paying attention to anything going on-- something that keeps happening lately and that is really uncharacteristic-- shes usually very responsible. Now aside from the irony of The Shaping of a Christian Family, staring up at me from the toilet, completely destroyed and disintegrating, Im quite pleased that my tears were enough to shame Annika into feeling REALLY remorseful and that I didnt yell or lose my temper. The downside is that thats the second of my things shes broken in as many weeks--- eight year old girls are truly much more difficult than toddlers in so many ways-- at least thats how it seems to me. Anyways.... Well get there yet, book to guide us or not. ;)
