Announcement From Timberland Malaysia and Reach Out Malaysia. The annual Timberland Serv-A-Palooza is back this year with the ambition of emphasizing the importance of education in a rural society. This is a time to roll up our sleeves and pull on our Yellow Boots to make a difference in communities where we live and work! Come join us in this year’s very meaningful activity for our 2014 Serv-a-palooza – build a resource and reading center in Kg. Orang Asli Sg. Pinang Tambahan, Pulau Indah, Selangor. The resource and reading center will serve as a home for learning, a place to hold activities that will motivate the parents and children of Kg. Orang Asli Sg. Pinang Tambahan to get educated. This time, we will be heading to Kg Orang Asli Sg Pinang Tambahan, a small fisherman’s village, with approximately 65 families where the people focus their energy into surviving. The living situation is challenging where both parents struggle to make a living while children either help their parents work or stay at home to take care of the younger siblings instead of focusing on education. Education is not much of a priority as the people focus on earning to survive. With 67 children of school going ages, there is a realization for the need of education especially at a young age to further improvise their living condition. The closest school to Kg Orang Asli Sg Pinang Tambahan, SK Pulau Indah, have realized this predicament and have suggested a resource and reading center at the village hall to raise awareness and to motivate parents and children alike regarding the importance of education in improving their lives. The teaching staff at SK Pulau Indah, on their own time, will plan and organize activities for the children while volunteers including those from our NGO Partner, Reach Out Malaysia will assist in conducting these activities. List of activities – (1) Carpentry Works (2) Wall Painting Works (3) Cleaning Works (4) Activities for kids (i.e. telematch, arts & crafts) What kind of Footprint will you leave?. SEE YOU SOON!
