Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Societies of Autonomous Institutions of DBT was held at CSIR Science Centre on 13th November 2014.I am happy over the scientific progress and achievements of the various Institutes. Its also my desire to visit the various Institutes. I outlined the following issues that must be addressed by the Directors of the Autonomous Institutions. i) Translation of scientific output of research into actionable good for the people. ii) Outcome of research to be converted into perceptible actions for the society at large. iii) At the time of planning and initiating any programme or research, measurable outputs along with the monitoring mechanism should also be listed. iv) To go into the nitty-gritty of the bottle-necks involved in the larger unresolved issues, whether of land, building or financial outlays etc., which can then be resolved by one to one interaction with the concerned person(s). v) Each Institute to have a focus area of research apart from other areas in which it may be carrying out research. vi) Duplication and replication of research activities amongst various DBT institutions as well as other scientific institutions in the country to be avoided. vii) To motivate and inspire people as this can achieve where everything else fails. viii) Brainstorming involving the lowest level. ix) Write ups on programmes like TB, Cancer, Pre-term Birth etc. LIST OF AUTONOMOUS INSTITUTIONS OF DBT 1.
