Annual Nursing Education Conference (ANEC) The 2013 ANEC conference was co-hosted by FUNDISA and NEA in Johannesburg, 2nd - 4th September. The theme of the conference was “Making the Journey Together.” Approximately 450 nurse leaders, academics, and practitioners from all over South Africa and other countries attended the three-day conference. A number of dynamic keynote speakers addressed the delegates. In addition, delegates had the opportunity of attending pertinent and informative workshops. The purpose of the conference was for the “improvement and betterment of nursing education and scholarship in South Africa and beyond” (ANEC, 2013). Prof D van Rooyen, Dr P Jordan, and Mr K Topper presented papers at the conference. Prof van Rooyen presented her qualitative paper titled ‘Professional nurses’ perceptions of barriers to care for people with mental illness in the Eastern Cape, South Africa’, while Mr Topper presented his qualitative paper on the ‘Barriers to care and the right to health for people with mental illness in the Eastern Cape, South Africa’. Dr Jordan conducted a workshop on ‘high fidelity simulation’.
