Annual exams in March2 srinagar, October 10:The cabinet Friday decided that theannual examinations of the under graduate classes of Kashmir Division Colleges and the Winter Zones Colleges of Jammu Division will be held in March, 2015 instead of October-November 2014.It also decided that the same examination schedule will apply in the Kashmir Division and the Winter Zone of the Jammu Division in the School Education Department. The decision was taken in view of the damages caused to the infrastructure of school/highereducation institutions in the state by the floods.Earlier, the government had issued a statement announcing that the annual school examinations in the flood-hit Valley will be held in the last week of October and first week of November.“The annual examinations for the classes I to IX and Class XIin Kashmir Valley will be conducted in the last week of October while the board examinations for classes X and XII will be held in first week of November,” read the official statement which was withdrawn later.Meanwhile, Controller Examinations of Kashmir University, A S Bhat said the annual examinations of under-graduate courses will be held in March next year.He said some major examinations which were postponed due to floods will resume from November this year.“We will finalize exam dates forB.Ed and for other bi-annual under-graduate courses and start the examinations from first week of November,” Bhat said.He, however, said the different departments in Kashmir University will have the discretion to announce the dates of examinations for any subjects which were left midway in the wake of the floods.“The departmental heads are at liberty to conduct the examsof these subjects on any date. As per my knowledge some departments have started to conduct these exams,” Controller Examinations said.He said the examinations for M.Ed and several post graduate (PG) courses run through private or distance mode would be conducted after October 20.“Besides PG programmes, some semester exams were also delayed due to floods, but they will resume hopefully from October 21,” Bhat added.Meanwhile, Secretary School Education Department, Nirmal Sharma said around 50 percent of the flood-hit schools in district Srinagar have resumed functioning in tents and alternate accommodations.“While the schools have started functioning we will givegap of one month to the students and to get prepared for exams,” Sharma said.She said they will identify the examination halls at safer locations to conduct the examinations of higher secondary classes.“We are hopeful that 95 percent of schools will start functioning within this month,” she added.Meanwhile, in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, educational activities in the Valley following floods were reviewed.He directed the officers concerned to make elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of these examinationsand issue necessary date sheets for the information of students.Chand, who holds the Education portfolio, also directed all the Chief EducationOfficers to ensure regular classes in all the schools, especially those affected by floods.He also called for ensuring safety of students while entering in the flood-hit buildings, saying such buildings must be inspected bythe Public Works Department authorities as has been decided by the Government.Chand also directed the Director of School Education, Kashmir to ensure proper sanitation, safe drinking water and adequate medical facilitiesin all the schools of the Valley.He also issued instructions to the Board of School Education authorities to take immediate steps for the availability of text books for the new classes in time.Meanwhile, taking serious noteof the absence of Chief Education Officers of Kupwara and Kulgam district in today’s meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the Director School Education to call for their explanation.Meanwhile, the cabinet also revoked the embargo on transfers imposed earlier vide Government order No:07-GAD(Camp) of 2014, dated:17.09.2014.
