Anon: Im after some advise on breastfeeding law please.... I took my 16mo swimming today and bfed her in the pool at the end of her class before I passed her to hubby as my 3yo had her lesson next. I was told by the instructor that I couldnt do that as the hotel rules there is not feeding allowed, of any sort, in the pool and even the changing rooms (as no food or drink is allowed in there and its against health & safety). I told him that its against the law for them to stipulate that as a mother has the right to breastfeed her child wherever is necessary. If I had got out of the pool we would have both got cold, unnecessarily. (I did do it discretely in the corner with my back turned!) Is it ok to do that? I know they cant say no feeding in the changing rooms but can they ask you to leave the pool? Im concerned this huge hotel chain is discriminating against breastfeeding and the swim school is concerned if they challenge it theyll loose their pool space which will inevitably close down their business. The instructor is a friend so I would like to help educate rather than highlight the ignorance! Any advise?
