*Anon Question I have a 13 month old who for the past couple of months has been hitting out at me and throwing her toys during her tantrums. She objects to my direction and distraction if shes doing things I need to put a stop to because its not safe or we might be going out etc She laughs at me when I speak firmly to her. My husbands voice seems to stop her in her tracks and may make her upset (and hes not unkind either just firm with the tone), while even though I can use a firm deep tone when Im not happy with her or our pets, she finds it funny. I dont believe smacking works as it only replicates unwanted behaviour. Recently i tried to get advice from my MIL who just laughed and told me she was being a normal kid, except she hasnt displayed this behaviour to her directly so she hasnt actually seen what Im describing. Im the primary support while hubby works, and I feel like Im getting the brunt of her meltdowns and resistance, which leaves me to face most or her outbursts and struggle to manage them. I would appreciate direction on strategies to use to manage her behaviour; where I could perhaps go for help with managing behaviours (which arent costly = I live in Melbourne), and an other non-expensive options parents may have used that worked well. I want to nip this problem before it becomes something Ill need The Super Nanny for... LOL! Thanks mums and dads.
