Anon asks I have a question for the American mamas. I live in the UK with my husband and our two year old. My DH works for an American company and has been offered the opportunity to relocate to one of their US offices, either in Boston or San Francisco. It will be a lovely adventure for us but I have a few concerns because our DS is largely unvaccinated. My understanding is that this wont affect us being granted a visa, but it seems that both California and Massachusetts require children to be fully vaccinated to enter the school system or access any sort of childcare. Can anyone tell me how this translates to real life? My DS will probably be three by the time we arrive - will I not be able to enrol him in any day care? I plan to work part time, as I do here in the UK. His current nursery have no problem at all that he is unvaccinated, and he does swimming, gymnastics, football, dancing classes etc. Its never been a problem here but I am worried he will not be able to enrol in any activities. Is this the case? Does anyone have any experience in either city - Im assuming each one has a good community of natural mothers and Im hoping well find like-minded friends wherever we end up; Im just worried that my lovely, active little boy wont be able to go to fun classes, or that I wont be able to work as Ill have no one to look after him. Just for extra information: he is not completely unvaccinated but there are certain vaccines we dont want him to have due to family medical history. Thank you!
