Anon asks Paed recommended iron drops for one year old as he doesnt the normal levels of (transferrin?) the necessary component of red blood cells to absorb iron. Saying that he did say hes not anaemic & would support us going the natural route. After reading what damage anaemia can cause in developing babies I thought Id go ahead but as the Dr hasnt got back to me with instructions & Ive read a few things in the meantime about how iron drops are harsh on their stomach, can cause constipation (which he sometimes has) sickness & interferes with the (small) but bioavailable amount in BM. He said hed support the natural route but suspect my husband will think its too bigger risk. Anyone been told similar? ( we only discovered this because of routine BT done with private Dr , if I was in UK I wouldnt have found out about this) Incidentally we were also told his immunoglobulin levels were low too so may be prone to ear infections etc. but again hes perfectly healthy & never had more than a cold so been told not to worry . TIA
