Anon asks What is everyone’s opinion regarding teaching children to believe in santa? My partner believed in santa growing up and says it was all very exciting but I hate the idea of it. In no other situation would we make up something that we know isn’t true and then convince our child to believe in it, only to break it to them later on that it was all a lie. So why do it in this case? My partner wants our child to grow up “with” santa claiming that it’s fun and good for childrens’ imaginations. However, in my view, it has absolutely nothing to do with the imagination of the child and everything to do with the parents’ own desires. It might seem like no big deal but I feel it could be one of those little things that ultimately teaches children not to trust their parents. I feel like as her parents, we should be the two people who she can trust 100% to tell her the truth, even when it comes to matters that might seem trivial. What are your thoughts?!
