Anon has asked: My (nearly) 21 month old first born son has been waking during the night without fail for at least the last 6 months now. Mostly its him chatting to himself, repeating words, making siren sounds etc, sometimes a bit of grizzling but nothing serious that warranted us going in there to comfort him. This behaviour started while I was pregnant and he now has a 7 week old brother to whom his mostly indifferent. In the last few weeks he has started wailing in the middle of the night. At first we just brought him into our bed (the baby is in a bassinet by the bed), but once it started happening regularly I respond with a cuddle and telling him he has to stay in his cot and that Im not far away. Sometimes it takes a few goes, but mostly he does settle down. The problem is though, whether he wails or just wakes up to chat, he stays awake. Anywhere from 1-3hrs. I can see bags under his eyes during the day. He sleeps for two hours during the day and even if hes super tired, hell only go down for the one sleep. Im worried hes not getting enough sleep! He can be very cranky and I know its the age and maybe teething and probably jealousy but I dont know how to help him sleep. Any suggestions? Thanks!
